  • SC4 receives $1.25 million grant to boost adult learner enrollment and support services.
  • The grant will fund development of a career-focused system aligned with local labor market needs.
  • SC4 will collaborate with community partners to create career pathways and increase the number of adults with credentials.

St. Clair County Community College has been awarded $1.25 million through the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement and Potential’s Reconnect Community Action Grant, one of only seven community colleges statewide to receive the competitive funding.

The grant is part of an $8.1 million initiative aimed at boosting adult learner enrollment, strengthening support services for students, and building regional partnerships between colleges, local governments and employers. SC4 plans to use the funds to develop a new career-focused system aligned with labor market needs for both high school graduates and adult learners.

“The MiLEAP Reconnect Community Action Grant empowers SC4 to transform lives—opening doors to education, opportunity and brighter futures for college students in our community,” said Kirk Kramer, president of SC4. “The college has a strong history of collaboration, and we look forward to working with others in our region to prepare students with the education and training needed to thrive in the future.”

SC4’s proposal drew broad community support, with endorsement letters submitted by the Community Foundation of St. Clair County, St. Clair County RESA, YMCA of the Blue Water Area and Michigan Works Macomb/St. Clair. The three-year grant will involve collaboration with business and education partners to create career pathways and increase the number of working-age adults who hold skill certificates or college degrees.

To lead the effort, SC4 has named Nick Beaudry as Director of College Navigation. He will oversee grant-related strategies and work alongside new team members Holly Iseler, Maya Savedra and Joshua Smith, who will begin serving as college navigators in July.
