Should Oklahoma students learn gun safety in school?
THAT TEXAS FAMILY DID GET THEIR VEHICLE BACK. ALL RIGHT. SHOULD KIDS LEARN GUN SAFETY IN SCHOOL? WELL, A BILL IS MAKING ITS WAY THROUGH THE CAPITOL. SUGGESTS THAT THEY DO. KOCO DAKOTA WASHITA EXPLAINS WHY IT WILL IMPACT STUDENTS IN HIGH SCHOOL, BUT ALSO ELEMENTARY. 3312 IS A FIREARMS SAFETY EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS FOR GRADES K THROUGH 12. THIS EDUCATION WOULD BE CREATED IN COLLABORATION WITH CLEET, THE COUNCIL ON LAW ENFORCEMENT, EDUCATION AND TRAINING. NOW, THEY SAY THE GUN SAFETY CLASS WOULD NEED TO BE AGE APPROPRIATE AND COULD BE IN A CLASSROOM SETTING WITH A VIDEO OR ONLINE RESOURCES. THE BIG THING IS TO TEACH YOUNG OKLAHOMANS SAFE STORAGE OF FIREARMS, SCHOOL SAFETY RELATING TO FIREARMS, HOW TO AVOID INJURY. IF YOU FIND ONE, AND TO NOTIFY ADULTS. THIS BILL SAYS THE EDUCATION MUST BE NEUTRAL ON POLITICAL TOPICS SUCH AS GUN RIGHTS, GUN VIOLENCE IN THE SECOND AMENDMENT OF THE US CONSTITUTION. NOW, A KEY POINT OF THIS TRAINING IT WOULD NOT HAVE LIVE AMMO OR LIVE FIREARMS. THE BILL DID NOT GO THROUGH COMMITTEE WITHOUT QUESTIONS. I DO UNDERSTAND KIND OF WHAT YOU’RE TRYING TO DO. I THINK IT’S IMPORTANT FOR EVERYBODY TO UNDERSTAND THIS GUN SAFETY. MY QUESTION IS, IS THIS A REQUIREMENT OR IS THIS A IS THIS A SUGGESTION? IT IS A REQUIREMENT FOR THE THE SCHOOLS TO OFFER IT. HOWEVER, WE DID PUT LANGUAGE IN THERE FOR PARENTAL CHOICE OPTIONS TO OPT OUT. NOW DEMOCRATS THEY VOTED AGAINST THIS BILL BUT IT DID PASS OUT OF COMMITTEE. IT HAS MANY STEPS TO COMPLETE. IF IT WERE TO BECOME
