Automotive manufacturer lays off employees at plants in Carey, North Baltimore
A spokesperson for Teijin Automotive Technologies declined to say how many employees were laid off from the plants.
NORTH BALTIMORE, Ohio — A Detroit-based automotive manufacturer laid off employees at two plants in northwest Ohio this week due to reduced sales and market fluctuations, a spokesperson for the company confirmed to WTOL 11 on Thursday.
Teijin Automotive Technologies spokesperson Kim Zitny declined to tell WTOL 11 the exact number of employees laid off from its plants in Carey and North Baltimore, both about 15 minutes outside of Findlay.
She added that the number is not enough to require a WARN notice, a two-month warning that most employers are required to give for plant closures and mass layoffs.
“Per our CEO Chris Twining, ‘Reduced customer sales volumes and on-going market fluctuations have resulted in the need to adjust our current workforce levels. It is a difficult but necessary step as we continue to adapt to the ongoing changes and challenges in the marketplace,'” Zitny said in an email to WTOL 11 Thursday morning.
The company globally employs 5,400 people, according to its website. It also has Midwest plants in Van Wert, Ohio; about 20 minutes north of Tecumseh in Manchester, Michigan; and two outside of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Teijin manufactures “highly-engineered products for dynamic market segments, including automotive, heavy truck, marine and recreational vehicles” and supplies customers in North America, Europe and Asia.
