Automotive event coming to Oley

The 45th Annual In-Vette-Tational will be held at the Oley Fire Company Fairgrounds, 26 Jefferson St., on Saturday, July 19, rain or shine. All makes and models of cars and trucks are welcome. Registration is from 9 a.m. to noon, and 51 trophies will be awarded. There is no fee for parking or admission.

This year’s theme is auto racing. There will be vintage race cars displayed by the Reading Fairgrounds Racing Historical Society. Special guests are Amy Hardin of the National Corvette Museum and Wes Wong of Pratt Miller Motorsports. Wong is a senior adviser to the United States Special Operations Command and a Senior Fellow of Advanced Antiterrorism Studies at the Air Force Special Operations School.

The show opens at 9:30 with a ceremony to honor active-duty military and veterans, followed by a demonstration by the Reading Police K-9 Unit. There will be music, a loud exhaust competition, raffles, an auction, food and displays and vendor stands.

Cleanup at lake

A community cleanup event at Crystal Lake at Carsonia Park, 905 Byram St., Pennside, is scheduled for Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Rain date is Thursday.

The Antietam Valley Community Partnership will provide gloves for those who need them. Sturdy, water resistant boots are highly recommended. Bring a wheelbarrow if you have one. After the cleanup there will be a reception for volunteers at the Antietam Valley Recreation & Community Center.

Color & Art Fest

Downtown Reading’s second annual Color & Art Fest Block Party is scheduled for Saturday, July 12, from noon to 6 p.m. in the 600 and 700 blocks of Penn Street. It features fun, food, fitness, music and all things color and art.

Activities include the fifth annual Color Run – a free, noncompetitive, and untimed event open to runners of all ages and fitness levels. Participants will be showered in vibrant, non-toxic powders. To register, go to runsignup.com/Race/PA/Reading/Nemesis5kColorRun.

The Reading Parking Authority is sponsoring free event parking at the Fourth and Cherry garage from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

BCTV program

The July League of Women Voters of Berks County BCTV program is “How Do You Imagine Berks?” It airs Tuesdays this month from 9 to 10 p.m. and is available to stream at www.bctv.org and on the BCTV YouTube channel.

The program features a discussion of the Berks County comprehensive plan and how it relates to area residents.

Guests include Pamela Menet, Berks County director of community and economic development; David Hunter, executive director of the Berks County Planning Commission; and Ashley Showers, assistant director of the planning commission.

Farmers market

The Antietam Valley Farmers Market is open Monday, July 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carsonia Park,  905 Byram St., Pennside.

Program on bats

Daniel Boone Homestead in Exeter Township presents “All About Bats” on Friday, July 18, at 7 p.m.

The homestead is home to numerous bats. Learn more about them in a program led by Dr. Karen Campbell from Albright College. It will consist of a presentation inside the Wayside Lodge followed by a walk to search for bats as dusk falls. Bat boxes are located throughout the property, and bats can often be spotted nesting and flying.

Sale, flea market

A 50 Cent Sale and indoor/outdoor flea market is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, from 8 to 11 a.m. at Calvary United Church of Christ, 1231 Route 100, Barto. All are welcome.

Roper Romp

Berks Encore is holding its first Roper Romp on Aug. 2 in West Reading as part of the organization’s 60th anniversary celebration. It will raise funds for Meals on Wheels Berks County.

The event is inspired byHelen Roper, the fun-loving landlady from “Three’s Company.” Guests are encouraged to dress in their finest Roper-inspired attire — think flowing caftans, oversized sunglasses, red wigs, and retro glam. Men are encouraged to channel Stanley Roper, Helen’s grumpy, leisure-suit-wearing husband

The event begins at 11:30 a.m. with brunch at the Third & Spruce Drafthaus, 238 S. Third Ave., West Reading. A group photo shoot at noon will be followed by a walk to the Midtown restaurant, 600 Penn Ave., for dessert at 1.

Tickets are $60 per person or $100 per couple, with all proceeds benefiting Meals on Wheels. Tickets and sponsorship details are available at www.berksencore.org.

Birds and Brews

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary near Kempton is hosting its annual Birds & Brew event on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. Proceeds support the sanctuary’s global raptor conservation and education mission.

The $65 ticket price includes unlimited tastings from more than 20 local breweries, wineries and distilleries along with a buffet dinner by Brother’s Barbecue, music by Six to Midnight and meet-and-greets with raptors. Each attendee will receive a tasting glass as well as access to nonalcoholic drinks and snacks. Tickets are $35 for designated drivers and those under 21.
